Free Crop Video is a simple Windows tool to crop videos quickly and easily.

Cropping is the editing technique of removing unwanted area from an image or video. Many people will capture family videos, for instance, while they are out and about, and then, later crop some of those videos so that they are very focused on the subject rather than the scene at large.

Free Crop Video is a free tool. There is no cost to download, install or use it. It is also a simplistic tool, and we mean that in a flattering manner. The developer RealZeal Soft set out to create a cropping tool that a user with no technical experience could use easily, and it achieved that well.

Simply load your video into Free Crop Video. You can even drag and drop it onto the Window. You can set the crop using X and Y coordinates, or you can set it visually, which will be ideal for most users in most cases. It supports almost all common video file types, so you do not have to worry about the program not recognizing your video unless you are using an obscure container.

There are some issues with Free Crop Video. On the minor side, the user interface is a tad garish, and the program will not let you set the name of the output file. You will have to wait for the process to complete, locate the new file and rename it manually. While this is not a huge issue for one file, it makes the process much more tedious when you are cropping multiple videos in a single sitting.

Another issue we had is that even though it supports an extensive list of input formats, it only lets you choose between AVI and another output format. This is limiting and means that if neither of the two options are suitable, then you have to run a conversion or just use another video cropping tool.

It also important to point out that Free Crop Video has been effectively discontinued and is no longer supported. It continues to work well even on Windows 10, but the developer no longer offers the program directly and has rolled the feature set into a large application suite for which you must pay.
